Exclusive: New information on case involving former coach accused of rape

News10NBC has obtained exclusive information regarding the case of a local high school basketball coach charged with rape.  The case involves Monte Nowden.

Police say the former Gates Chili Basketball coach had sex with a 16-year-old student at Tinseltown Movie Theater in January.

News10NBC’s Amanda Ciavarri was the only reporter in court for a hearing in the case. After that hearing, Nowden’s attorney gave Amanda statements from the 16-year-old where she says she made the whole story up.

News10NBC was given two different statements, one from March and one from April. In both statements, she tells a private investigator she did not have sex with Nowden. In the handwritten, three-page document, it says she made it up to make girls at her school jealous.

Geraci has been a county court judge for more than 13 years. He served a city court judge before that. Geraci is a McQuaid graduate, and once worked as an assistant district attorney.

President Obama calls Geraci highly qualified, and a valuable addition to the U.S. District Court in Western New York.

Geraci was recommended by Senator Chuck Schumer, whose nominee last year, former D.A. Mike Green, was never confirmed.
