Man shot in Wheatland | Crime

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office and State Police are investigating a shooting in Wheatland.

Sheriff's deputies say a passerby observed a man on the side of the road. Sheriff's deputies say a man in his 40's had been shot in the torso. The man was talking at the time sheriff's deputies arrived, but he only spoke Spanish, so it was hard for deputies to find out what happened.

The man was transported to Strong Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Canine units and helicopters are in the area searching for a green SUV, similar to a Ford Explorer, that was seen leaving the area.

Smith Road near Union Street in the town is shut down at this time.
