Police: Woman left one-year-old in hot car | Crime
A Rochester mother is accused of leaving her one-year-old child in a locked minivan Tuesday night in the hot weather.
Police say it happened outside the Walmart in Gates.
News10NBC was there as officers waited for Christine McFarley. McFarley, of Rochester, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Police say a couple walking into Walmart heard the baby crying in a locked minivan, which was not running at the time. That couple called 911.
Police got the baby out of the van using lock-out tools and had paramedics check him over immediately. Those medics say the child was sweating, but was otherwise okay.
According to police, they tried to page McFarley in Walmart, but it took a half hour after police arrived for McFarley to come out of the store.
Police say if the couple hadn't called 911 when they heard the baby's cries, the outcome of this situation could have been a lot worse.
McFarley was issued an appearance ticket and will be in court to answer the charges in September.
