New option for mail services | News

Gates residents have a new option for their mail services. A new contract postal unit is up and running inside Taylor Rental Center at 2222 Lyell Ave.

The units, also called CPUs, are leased through the United States Postal Service and operated by a supplier, such as Taylor Rental. The supplier is under contract with the post office.

Jack Cardillo, who owns Taylor Rental, said he added the new service to increase foot traffic inside his business during the slower winter months. Taylor Rental provides everything from lawn and garden equipment to party and banquet supplies.

The CPU operates just like a traditional post office - it sells stamps and can ship packages anywhere in the world. The only service not offered is mail delivery.

Cardillo said it's a nice alternative.

"The line isn't as long as the post office," he said.

The CPU is open during Taylor Rental's regular business hours: from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
